Amazing. We went vegetarian with the grilled avacado dish. What do I say. Let's try over the moon. A cornucopia of flavors and textures. And it was all served on a bed of grits. Grits, yes. This dish was an inspired culinary event. Never would I have believed the words "skip the scallops " could have been formed by my lips, but do your taste buds a good turn and eat this food. As for our waiter, Chris, back to that first word. Amazing. For every time you walked back to your car and said to your dinner companions in route, "that was a great waiter "...it was this guy.
If I could rank Flying Fish more than 5 stars, I would. We visited Sunday evening and arrived around 5pm for our 5:30 reservation, the host graciously seated us and we were met with Didi (spelling?) our waiter who was so sweet, helpful, and professional. He never let our drinks run dry, and made sure we knew exactly what everything was on the menu. Went through each appetizer and entree individually and described it. He also explained that the menu changes daily (which I didn't know) but was NOT disappointed by the options. My husband and I ordered the sustainable fish which was halibut and a yummy side of veggies in a really yummy white wine cream sauce. Our friends had the steak which was cooked medium rare and wow. I've never tasted steak so good. I don't generally like my steak that red, but the texture was perfect. That also came with a side of potatoes and asparagus (which our friend subbed for more potatoes). When the plate arrived, we realized they gave him TWO different kinds of potatoes, both were delicious.
My husband also got a Manhattan which was not too sweet, definitely had a kick to it. Bravo. Worth the money and the drive. We will definitely be back!
I ordered the fish, which was oversalty to the point of being nearly inedible. Cheese starter was good though. Overall not worth the price.
The food is absolutely delicious, wonderful combination of flavors in each dish. Nice, modern, "under the sea" style atmosphere. However, the menu selection is very small, and for what you get, the prices are outrageous. I would go there again if I had more money to spend and if their menu selection was bigger.
Excellent variety of seafood dishes. Very complex, layered tastes. Adults and kids loved it.
