Now he is back under the pallets, too smart to let us grab him again. Sadly, he is obviously in need of medical attention and he cries a lot.
The workers are very nice. The animals are always under good care here. I adopted a cat the other day and I love her so much she's very happy and healthy and adjusting to her new home nicely.
They came really quickly, which was nice, but the lady just opened the box and the cat came flying out. No gloves, no cage at the ready...
Poor thing.
We finally caught him, put him in a box and called for pick up.
Friendly, helpful knowledgeable staff and volunteers. We were there to find our recently lost cat and they were most caring and explained the process of how long it takes to locate an animal from the time their officer picks up the animal to when it appears on their site for viewing. The cats appeared well cared for,, by that I mean, neutered, vaccinated and illnesses treated so they can be go to their "forever homes". I encourage anyone looking for a pet to adopt rather than buy at this location.
Spent a week trying to catch a feral kitten INSIDE my large warehouse. He was hiding under pallets.
For a county animal control facility it's actually quite good. The kennels are clean. There are often several volunteers who take the dogs out for exercise and human interaction. The dogs have a raised "bed" to lie on. There is an automatic watering system. The staff is friendly and helpful. The adoption fees are reasonable, and senior (over 7) or heartworm positive dogs are free. At least 75% of the dogs are pits, but they're everywhere in FL, so not surprised. The small dogs go FAST. Biggest downside...kennel area is not air conditioned, but I think county is building a new shelter. Overall I was pleasantly surprised.
I am a volunteer here and I can't recommend this shelter enough. All the dogs and cats are well taken care of. The staff is dedicated and extremely friendly. You get to spend time with any dog or cat you are interested in adopting to make sure it's the right fit. Plus there's almost always a discount for the month. Come adopt!!!
