Space mountain is an indoor roller coaster in the dark. It seems largely unchanged from my childhood. You climb into a rocket and blast off into "space". It has sudden dips made all the more startling because you can't see them in the dark along with the hair pin turns. I must admit I enjoyed the turns more than the drops that left me feeling like I would need a kidney transplant at the end of the ride from all of the times my lap slammed into the bar. This is an old ride from 1975 so it is not smooth like the roller coasters of today. It's still a ton of fun though and a visit wouldn't be complete with out it.
A unique ride where it is completely dark and you can’t see where you’re going. Because of that I can’t brace for the turns and it makes it very uncomfortably for me. Lines are usually super long
This is one of the top rides in Disney world so it necessitates getting a fast pass ahead of the day you want to go to the park. By the time we arrived at the park it was no longer possible to get a fast pass and without it the wait was long. It does not have a single rider line to help you out. I wasn't able to secure the coveted fast pass but luck worked in my favor when a ride I did have a fast pass for broke down. I was able to apply that fast pass to this ride which was great because the wait time for this ride on the day I was there was over an hour and a half.
This coaster is in the dark. If dark rides aren't your thing, then I don't suggest you ride this. Also, if you have any sort of back or neck issues, this isn't the coaster for you either. The cars are uncomfortable, and you are jostled around so much, by the time you get off the ride, you feel like you have whiplash.
That being said, I love this coaster, even with its discomfort. There are various hidden Disney gems in and off the ride that the Imagineers put in (be sure to read the list of star ports as you are walking through the line to get your the queue) I don't recommend it if you've never ridden a coaster before (as was my husband's case. Lol). But it's a great classic Disney coaster.
Staff on this ride are incompetent. They allow fast pass to take up both sides of the ride. Not only do they dedicate one side for the express pass a flood them over under the standard pass. Estimated time when we get on this ride was 140 minutes we've been in this line for over 380 minutes. Management seriously needs to look into the transition of this line.
This was the worst roller coaster I have ever been on and my wife agrees. My 13-year-old also hated it. But my nine-year-old loved it… Go figure. I will never ride this Again. Riding in the pitchdark getting whiplash is not my idea of fun .
